The Horses of the Camarague Spring APR 2011

The horse of the Camarague region are well known to European photographers and come from a wetland region at the mouth of the Rhone river. At birth the horse are dark brown or black and turn white at four.

The horses of the Camarague are protected by riders called guardians they are full fledged French cowboys who live in traditional thatched and windowless single storey structures. Guardians wear traditional; black hats. Camarague horses thrive in Sea water - they are often called "the horse of the sea" we will stay at Saints Marines de la mer where the guardians will guide us for 3 days of shooting in the surf and beaches. The guardians will muster a large herd of horses and lead them into the surf for gallops that they love. We will have 3 days with the guardians with two two hour sessions a day.

The days that we are not with the Camarague we will be availing ourselves of the numerous opportunities in the Provence region of France.
